Rachael Gardner lives and works in Brooklyn. Her paintings have been exhibited many states across the country. She was born in California, but moved to New Orleans which is where she spent most of her formative years. While in high school in New Orleans Rachael studied at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts where she had her first group show. Later Rachael again moved to Brooklyn to attend Pratt Institute where she received her BFA in painting. She paints portraits as a contemplation of the relationships between people. Her work is an examination of the logic behind their interactions. Is it possible to know everything or anything about a person from looking them in their face. Some works are done from live models. However most source material is from photographs. Interested in a studio visit or in commissioning a painting please e-mail with more information at rachael.gardner44@gmail.com.
“Most of Rachael’s titles refer to something superficial in the portrait. It’s fitting. They refer to details filled with our preconceptions but really void of personality. Then the viewer contemplates the person behind the detail. The paintings offers us just as much insight about ourselves, and our relationship with others as they do Rachael’s men.” -Raquel Manuela Colón
